Leonard Clay Kittrell, 72, of Sweetwater, passed away peacefully at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at Sweetwater Hospital with his children by his side.
He worked as a licensed plumber/pipe-fitter for more than 25 years through UA Local Union #295 of Daytona Beach, Fla. He worked at Cape Canaveral in Cocoa Beach, Fla., for many years before transferring to TVA in Spring City. He Attended Old Sweetwater Baptist Church until his health declined. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his daughters, Mary Cochran Brackins of Sweetwater, and Katrise Kittrell of Daytona Beach, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, James (Eddie) and Twana Cochran, and Robert (Bobby) Cochran and girlfriend Annette Ferdig, all of Athens, and Lee and Anne Kittrell of Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Christopher Cochran, Carley Allison Cochran, Garrison Brackins (Papaw's little man), Jocelyn Gabrielle Cochran, Monica Emerson, Megan and Justin Kittrell, and Kaytlyn Haynes; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Blanche Smith of Sanford, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Paulette Kittrell of Eustis, Fla., Eugene Kittrell of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Horace Kittrell of Shelby, N.C.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ila Mae and JV Biggerstaff, and Helen (Pat) Yonts, all of Forest City, N.C., and Nathan and Mary Pless of Semora, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary M. Kittrell; parents, Elliott Harvey and Nellie B. Kittrell; sisters, Eloise Riddle and Irene King; and beloved sister-in-law, Nancy Kittrell.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Hasmukh Kanabar, Dr. Ray Villanueva, and all the nurses and staff at SHA and Amedisys Hospice. A very special thank you to Benny and Sherry Goodman for all their support during this time. Leonard, aka Ding Ding/Papaw, has left behind some beautiful memories with all the lives he has touched. We will see you again someday.
Funeral services were 7 p.m. Wednesday at Biereley-Hale Chapel with the Rev. Benny Goodman officiating.
Interment was 2 p.m. Thursday in Sweetwater Memorial Park with military service provided by V.F.W. Post 5156 and D.A.V. #93.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home of Madisonville.
Biereley-Hale Funeral Home of Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.
