Clara Kittrell 'Bookie' Sweatman
Mrs. Clara Kittrell "Bookie" Sweatman, 79, of 1743 Hudson Road, Cope, died early Monday morning, March 15, 2010, at home with her daughter and longtime caregiver by her side after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Allen Woodward and the Rev. Charles Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery in Cope.
Pallbearers will be Joe Woodward, John Kemmerlin, Jason Kemmerlin, Thomas McMichael, Acie Lee Strickland and J.H. "Red" Murray.
She was born July 8, 1930, in Orangeburg, the daughter of the late Eddie Lee Kittrell and the late Viola Dempsey Kittrell. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in the Canaan community, Cope.
Survivors include her husband, Marcus E. "M.E." Sweatman Jr. of Cope; one daughter and son-in-law, Penny Maxwell and Ronnie of Cope; two sons and daughters-in-law, Elvin Wade Sweatman and Wanda of Inman, and Stanley Sweatman and Becky of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren, Christopher Maxwell and Tiffany, Brittany Maxwell, all of Cope, Savannah Sweatman and Summer Sweatman, both of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Hazel Strickland of North; one brother, Malcolm Kittrell of North; and a special caregiver, Dorothy Johnson.
Friends may call at the residence, 1743 Hudson Road, Cope, and the funeral home.
The visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.
