Cornelius E. Van Zanten
June 20, 1923 - February 13, 2017
Mr. Cornelius "Casey" Van Zanten, age 93, of Orange City, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 11:00am, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. John Klompien will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Friday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Cornelius Edward was born on June 20, 1923, at Rock Valley, the son of John and Agnes (Mulder) Van Zanten. He was raised mostly at Sioux Center, where he attended a country school. His family also lived in Alton and Orange City, where he graduated from the Northwestern Classical Academy. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
On June 2, 1947, he married Audrey De Blauw in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where he was a salesman for John D. Brush safes and Electrolux vacuums. Audrey passed away on October 13, 2008, in Remsen.
Casey then became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, and last month, he moved to Prairie Ridge.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church and the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. He enjoyed collecting brass, listening to music, reading, and talking on the telephone with his daughters and other relatives.
Survivors include his five daughters and their husbands, Judith and Leonard Nagel, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Linda and James Johnson, of Grapevine, Texas; Andrea Pitts, of Phoenix, Arizona; Janet and Carl Mol, of Burnsville, Minnesota; and Melissa and Mike Cihak, of Newaygo, Michigan; seven grandchildren, James (wife, Trish) Pitts, Angela (husband, Brian) Ring, Casey Pitts, Joe Nagel, Benjamin (wife, Tia) Nagel, Zandt (wife, Brooke) Johnson, Kathryn Mol (special friend, Jake), Jillian Mol (special friend, Tony), and Andrew Mol; twelve great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; a sister and her husband, Irene and Adrian Ekdom, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, and his wife, Anthony Tony and Kathy Van Zanten, of Sarasota, Florida; a brother-in-law, Harold Hansen, of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Wilma Van Zanten, of Grand Rapids; and a special friend, Lois De Beer, of Orange City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Van Zanten, John Van Zanten, and Richard Dick Van Zanten, and his wife, Jean; and two sisters, Sadie Hansen, and Bertha, and her husband, Joe Rexwinkel.

John Van Zanten, 79, Alton, died September at Alton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. September 4 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. John Hellinga officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home of Orange City.
Mr. Van Zanten was born July 31, 1896, in the Netherlands. He came to the United States at the age of 12. He married Agnes Mulder March 14, 1920, in Lebanon, Iowa. They farmed in Sioux County until 1934, when they moved to Alton. He was a railroad foreman until retiring in 1961. Mrs. Van Zanten died October 27, 1961.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Bertha) Rexwinkel and Mrs. Harold (Sadie) Hansen, both of Alton, and Mrs. Adrian (Irene) Ekdom of Edgerton, Minn.; five sons, Cornelius and Dick, both of Orange City, John Jr. of Alton, Anthony of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Henry of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 19 grandchildren, and five sisters, Mrs. Charles Kleinhuizen of Kalamazoo, Mrs. Louis Toering of Pipestone, Minn., and Mrs. Ellis Kooi, Mrs. Gerrit Brands and Mrs. Gerrit Grevengoed, all of Rock Valley.

Funeral services for Mrs. John Van Zante, 63, of Alton, were held Monday at the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City with the Rev. J.B. Hulst officiating.
Mrs. Van Zanten, who would have been 64 on Monday, died Friday, October 27.
Born Agnes Mulder, October 30, 1897, in Friesland, the Netherlands, she came to this country with eh parents at the age of three. In March of 1920, she married John Van Zanten at Hawarden and they resided in Sioux county ever since.
Survivors are husband, daughters, Bertha, Mrs. Joseph Rexwinkel of Alton, Sadie, Mrs. Harold Hanson of Orange City and Irene, Mrs. Adrian Ekdom of Edgerton, Minn.; sons Cornelius of Orange City, Richard of Orange City, John Jr., of Alton, Anthony of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Henry of Grand Rapids, Mich; 17 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Hilda Fedders, Mrs. John Lyftogt and Mrs. Floris Vander Stoep all of Orange City; three brothers, Henry and Bastian Mulder of Orange City and Charles Mulder of Alton. A brother, Wm. Mulder of Sheldon preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were Anthony, Henry, Cornelius and Richard Van Zanten, Joseph Rexwinkel and John Van Zanten, Jr.
Burial was in the Orange City Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.
