Major League Baseball Player. He was a highly successful minor-league player and manager who had been a backup outfielder for six years with the Washington Senators (1909 to 1911), the New York Yankees (1912 to 1913) and the Cleveland Indians (1913-14). He hit .320 in 72 games in 1911, but the Senators traded him with catcher Gabby Street in December to the Yankees for infielder John Knight and shortstop Roxy Roach. He batted .362 in 36 games for the Yankees in 1912, but on May 20, 1913 he was dealt with outfielder Bill Stumpf to the Indians for shortstop Roger Peckinpaugh. The left-handed hitter batted .301 lifetime with 43 doubles, 22 triples, two homers and 126 runs batted in. As a minor leaguer, he racked up 2,671 hits, including 533 doubles, while hitting .331. In 1921 as a first baseman for Omaha of the Western League, he led the league with a .416 average, 274 hits and 70 doubles. He started managing in 1920 and won pennants at Tulsa (103-64 in 1922), Los Angeles (114-73 in 1933 and a Pacific Coast League-record 137-50 in 1934) and Seattle (101-73 in 1939 and 112-66 in 1940). When he had a disagreement with Angels' ownership, he became a scout for the Chicago Cubs in 1937. He suffered a heart attack while watching a basketball game and died shortly thereafter. His brother, Bill Lelivet, was a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers in 1909 to 1910.
