Aujourd’hui, six Vendémiaire an cinq de la République[=27 septembre 1796], onze heures et demie du matin, est comparu en la maison commune de Louvain Charles Bastiné, commissaire de Police de la seconde Section de Louvain, lequel assisté de Henry Effensteens, garçon tailleur âgé vingt et un ans, et de Catherine Harnou, âgée de quarante-six ans, tous deux domiciliés en cette commune, lequel a déclaré à Moi Pierre Gens Officier municipal, élu pour dresser les actes destinés à constater les naissances, mariages et décès, qu’ayant été instruit, qu’un Enfant était exposé à la porte de dernière du Serment de Saint-Sébastien, il s’était transporté sur le lieu et y avait dressé le procès-verbal dont la teneur suit : Canton de Louvain, Département de la Dyle l’an cinq de la République française cinq Vendémaire[=26 septembre 1796] en rapport qu’on avait exposé un Enfant, je me suis transporté à l’endroit qui se nomme La Dernière Porte du Jardin du ci-devant Serment de Saint-Sébastien où ???? avis la dite Porte était exposé un enfant du genre féminin entouré d’une large blanche ayant un petit jupon de coton blanc ayant aussi entre les loques un petit billet écrit en flamand : dit Kind is gedoopt ende aren naem is Mie, cet Enfant est baptisé et s’appelle Marie , peut avoir l’âge de quatre à six semaines, que l’Enfant a été enlevé en présence du citoyen Vanden Eynde et de Joanne This femme de Michel Becks à huit heures et demie du soir comme dessus quels témoins ont signé avec nous. Etait signé Jean Baptiste VandenEynde, Joanna This la femme de Becks et Bastiné commissaire de police du Canton de Louvain 2ième Section.
D’après la lecture de ce procès-verbal qu’Henry Effensteens et Catherine Harnou ont déclarés conforme à la vérité et la représentation qui m’a été faite de l’Enfant qui y est désigné, j’ai donné à cet Enfant le nom de Marie Camille et j’ai en vertu des Pouvoirs qui me sont déléguée, rédigé le présent acte que Charles Bastiné commissaire de police, Henry Effensteens et Catherine Harnou ont signés avec moi. Fait en la maison commune de Louvain jour, mois et an que susdit.

Today, six Vendemiaire year five of the Republic [= 27 September 1796], half past eleven in the morning, is appeared in the townhall of Louvain Charles Bastine, Police superintendent of the Second Section of Louvain, which is assisted by Henry Effensteens, a twenty-one-year-old tailor assistance, and Catherine Harnou, aged forty-six, both residing in this city, who declared to Pierre Gens, Municipal Officer, elected to register the acts intended the births, marriages and deaths, that having been instructed, that a child was put down into the last door of the Preachment ofSan Sebastián, he had moved to the place and drew up the minutes of the following contents: Canton of Louvain, Department of the Dyle the year five of the French republic five Vendémaire [= September 26, 1796] report that had exposed a Child, I transported to the place which is called The Last Gate of the Garden of the aforementioned Preachment of San Sebastian where in the said Door was exposed a Child of the female gender wrapped in a white ??? having a small white dress also having between the rags a small note written in Flemish:dit Kind is gedoopt ende aren naem is Mie, this Child is baptized and is called Marie, can have the age of four to six weeks, that the Child was takenoff in the presence of Citizen Vanden Eynde and Joanne This, wife of Michel Becks, at half-past eight in the evening as on what witnesses have signed with us. It was signed by Jean Baptiste Vanden Eynde, Joanna This Becks' wife and Bastine Police Commissioner of the Canton of Louvain 2nd Section.
From the reading of these minutes, which Henry Effensteens and Catherine Harnou declared to be conform to the truth, and the representation of the child named therein, I gave this child the name of Marie Camille and I have by virtue of the Powers delegated to me, drafted the present act that Charles Bastiné Commissioner of Police, Henry Effensteens and Catherine Harnou signed with me. Act made in the townhall of Louvain, day, month and year than aforesaid.
