Pella. Esther B. DeBoef, 90, of Pella and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at the Pella Regional Health Center's, Jefferson Place. She was born on Sunday, March 19, 1916, at Delmar, Iowa, the daughter of Conrad and Jennie Hahn Schwin. The family moved to Viola, Wisconsin, and Esther completed school through eighth grade in Viola. The family then moved to Oskaloosa and she graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1935. Early in her adult life she worked at the Reliable Store and for F.W. Woolworth dime store in Oskaloosa. On October 19, 1938, Esther was united in marriage to Howard DeBoef in Oskaloosa. Following their marriage they farmed northeast of Oskaloosa for over 50 years. They continued to live on the farm until 2005 when illness forced them to move to Jefferson Place. She enjoyed traveling and visited almost every state; she also enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ. Cooking and sewing were also pastimes she enjoyed. She was a past member of the Oskaloosa Church of the Nazarene, and was a long time member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
Her family includes her husband of over 67 years, Howard DeBoef of Pella, her son and his wife: Don (& Janice) DeBoef of Oskaloosa; 3 grandchildren: Heather Beyer, Tim Beyer, and Scott DeBoef; 3 great grandchildren: Brittney Beyer, McKenna Beyer, and Cameron Beyer; 3 sisters in law: Margaret Schwin, Esther Schwin, and Dolores Schwin.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, a son: Max DeBoef; a daughter: Sally DeBoef; and 3 brothers: Leonard, Carl and Paul Schwin.
Funeral services for Esther DeBoef will be held Friday, October 20, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Reverend Don DeGlopper officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation began Thursday after 11 a.m. and the family will be at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:30 - 8 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Central Reformed Church, Hospice of Pella, or Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Association.
