K. Verhey died at his home in the east part of town at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 26, 1916, aged 63 years and 2 months. His death was caused by pneumonia and followed an illness of but little more than a week.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, and three daughters. The children are Mrs. E. A. Roorda, Mrs. John Hospers, and Miss Marie Verhey, of Pella, John Verhey of New Sharon, and James Verhey of Pella. He leaves also two brothers, Henry of Pella and William of Des Moines, and two sisters, Mrs. John DeWit and Mrs. John Jansma, of Pella.
Mr. Verhey was a man of integrity and sterling worth in the community. He was a carpenter and contractor, his son James being associated with him In that work. They were known and their services called for in localities at considerable distance from Pella, and his name on a piece of work was a guarantee of its quality.
At the time of his death Mr. Verhey was serving his second term as Alderman from the First ward of the city. He never sought office, but, after accepting it, considered the discharge of his duties a sacred trust. His loss here will be deeply felt.
Funeral services will be held Friday. The service at the home will be at 11:30, and a service at the First Reformed church will follow. Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery.
