3.  Queen of the Jungle???

In 1935 Mary Kornman had the starring title roll in a twelve-part serial entitled Queen of the Jungle. This serial has been noted as the worst serial ever produced. Ahh, but at least it had Mary in it! Unfortunately, Mary played the part of a woman raised in the jungle who didn't know how to speak english. The only word she really seems to learn is "David", which she screams every time she manages to get herself into a bind. "DAY-VID". Contemporary reviews noted her incessant repeating of this word in their pans of the film.

The serial is a hatchet job, pieced together from several sources. Many of the scenes are actually spliced in from a silent serial. Quite probably it was a 1920 serial entitled "The Jungle Princess" starring Juanita Hansen, George Chesebro. The editing job was so sloppy that in several frames, the original actors are shown instead of Mary and David! In addition, Queen of the Jungle makes heavy use of silent stock footage of various wild animals and such.

Cliffhangers? Yeah, they're in there...usually with Mary in peril. Of course in true B-picture (maybe Z-picture, here!) fashion, the cliffhangers are never followed up in the following chapter! In one instance David and Joan (Mary) are trapped on board a ship and cornered into a cabin by a lion(!) The next chapter opens with the two on dry land. Hmmm....slight continuity error.
