Venables, Hugh, de, Kt. Inquistions taken on Tuesday next after the Feast of All Saints in the 41 Edw. 3., finding that Hugh de Venables, Kt., died seised in his demesne as of fee of the Earl of Chester, in capite by barony, of the lands, messuages, &c., which Robert de Boterlay, Richard son of Stephe, and other tenatns held, in Wytton and Le Cros, of the yearly value of 10l.; also in fee tail of the manors of Kynderton, Sprouston, Mershton, Wytton, and Le Cros, except ten librates of land held of the Earl of Chester in capite by the service aforesaid; also in fee tail of the advowson of the church of Routhesthorn, and lands and tenements in Middlewich held of the Earl of Chester by the like service; that Ralph, parson of the church of Davenham, and Hugh, parson of the church of Eccleston, granted all the aforesaid manors, lands, advowsons, &c., to the said Hugh de Venables, Kt., and the heirs of his body, and, then failing, to the right heirs of the said Hugh; that the said Hugh was seised, jointly with Katherine his wife, of the manor and advowson of eccleston, held of the Earl of Chester by the service aforesaid; that the said Hugh de Venables gave the manors of Bradewall and Neuton in Wirhall, with his lands in Northwich, to the aforesaid Ralph and Hugh in fee simple; that the said Ralph and Hugh enfeoffed William de Venables, Kt., son of the aforesaid Hugh de Venables, Kt., and Matilda wife of the same William, and the heirs of their bodies, of the said manors, lands, &c., with remainder to the right heirs of the said Hugh; that the said William and Matilda died during the lifetime of the said Hugh, and had issue two daughters, Matilda and Katherine, who died without issue, the said Hugh living; that the aforesaid Hugh de Venables, Kt., formerly married Elizabeth daughter of William de Modberlegh, and had issue tow sons, William and John; that the said William son and heir of the said Hugh married Matilda, daughter of Richard de Vernon, and hd issue two daughters as above; that John, son, and, by death of William his brother, heir, of the said Hugh, married Isabel, daughter of Philip de Eggerton, and had issue a son, William; that the said John died during the lifetime of his father; that the said William, son of John died without issue, the said Hugh living; that the said Hugh on the death of Elizabeth his wife married Katherine, daughter of Richard de Hoghton, and had issue Hugh, Rober, Thomas, and Richard; that the said Hugh de Venables, Kt., died on Friday next after the Feast of St Luke the Evangelist "last past;" that the said lands, &c., as valued at 10l. yearly, descended to the said Hugh, his son and heir, in fee simple; that the manors, homages, rents, advowsons, &c., excepting the manor and advowson of Eccleston, in which the said Katherine had a life estate, descended to the said Hugh by form of grant; that the manor and advowson of eccleston should remain to the said Hugh on the death of the said Katherine, and that the yearly value of all the manors, &c., as above was 100 marks.
