(1,2) 1637: Came to Virginia in charge of 40 soldiers when the colonists asked the Virginia Company for military assistance against the Indians.

(1,2,3) 1643: Had a land grant for 886 acres in James City Co. between Jamestown and Middle Plantation (now Williamsburg), a part being by reason of marriage to Elizabeth DURANT, widow of Richard DURANT, who patented it in 1636.
(1,2) c1643: Purchased "Little-Towne", whose owner, Capt. George MENIFEE, died in 1642.  It was east of "Kingsmill", which was east of Archer's Hope Creek on the north side of the James River.
(5) c.1650: In 1619, Richard KINGSMILL, William Fairfax, William CLAIBORNE, John JEFFERSON, William Spence, Richard STAPLES and Richard BREWSTER were the first Virginia Company members to receive grants of land in what was later to become "Kingsmill" on the James River, James City Co., VA.  By 1648 the 350 acres of land originally owned by William CLAIBORNE and John COMMANDRES and variously    called "Cosbie's," "Mount's Bay" or "Quarterland" had been acquired by Richard RICHARDS and renamed "Littleton" or "Littletown."  Around 1650 "Littletown" and John WAREHAM's "Hampton Key Plantation" (George SANDY's former "Utopia") were acquired by Col. Thomas PETTUS.  He built his home on the bluffs overlooking the James River.
(3) 1660, 22 Jan: Thomas PETTUS of "little towne in Virginia, Esq." and Elizabeth his wife gave power of attorney in Westmoreland Co., VA to Sgt.-Major Edward GRIFFITH of Mulberry Island, authorizing him to act with Mr. Henry MEESE in regard to 1,000 acres of land patented by Thomas PETTUS on Potomac Creek, and adjoining the land lately taken up by Sir Thomas LUNSFORD, deceased.
