2-1. JEREMIAH Dawson was b. in Bedford county, Va., May 30, 1763.  He was old enough to take part in the Revolutionary struggle before its close; enlisted at the age of 17 as a private in the company of Capt. Watkins' Va. Vols., and participated in at least one fight, the battle of Guilford Court-House, N. C. (March, 1781).  Some years after peace was declared, he m. in Bedford Co., Va., Nancy Dollard, who was b. in that county, Oct. 6, 1766, and was of Scotch and Welsh descent.  They remained a few years in Virginia, but removed before the beginning of the present century to Kentucky, and settled for a short time in Madison county; then removed to Hardin (now Hart) county, on the banks of Green river, about a mile and a half from Munfordsville, where he d. Feb. 10, 1846, aged 83, and she d. Dec. 9, 1852, aged 87.  He was a man of sober, excellent habits, simple tastes and high moral character. ; He received an ordinary English education, possessed strong natural sense, was six feet two inches in height, large, "raw boned" and muscular, a man of great physical power.
He cared little for the acquisition of wealth, devoting his early years to the manly sports of bear and deer hunting, only giving that attention to his farm required for the maintenance of his family, and the education of his children.  They had five sons and six daughters

Jeremiah Dawson (2-1) was born 30 May 1763 in Bedford Co., Va.

Charles Carroll Dawson claims he was the son of John Dawson (1-1) who lived in Bedford Co., Va. and Susan (Wood) Dawson, (daughter of John Wood) who was of English descent.
Jeremiah Dawson (2-1) died the 28th of Feb. 1846 in Hart Co., Ky. (Has his grave been found and is it marked?)
He married Nancy A. (Dollard), whose middle name might have been Agnes, in Bedford Co., Va. after the war's end.
In her request for a pension R2778 in June 1851, she claimed they were married 28 March 1788 in Bedford County by Baptist Minister Jerry Hatcher, and a copy of the marriage certificate was produced to support her pension claim.
Various DAR and SAR papers claim they were married ca. 1789 or 1790.
Their first child , John Dawson (3-1), is claimed to have been born ca. 1791 in Bedford Co., Va.

Nancy A. (Dollard) was born, she claimed in her R2778, 6 Oct. 1765 in Hanover Co., Va.
Charles Carroll Dawson claims she was born 6 Oct. 1766 in Bedford Co. and was of Scotch and Welsh descent.
She died 9 or 29 Dec. 1852 in Hart Co., Ky. according to society papers.

Analyzing the R2778 pension request of Jeremiah Dawson's widow, Nancy A. (Dollard) Dawson, 5 June 1851 in which she claimed Jeremiah had never received a pension, and supported by her son, Ransom A. Dawson, a Justice of the Peace in Hart Co., Ky., the following is quoted: "Nancy A. Dawson a resident of Hart County...doth on her Oath make the following declaration -- to wit -- That she was born in Hanover Co., Virginia on the 6th day of October, 1765.  That she was married to Jeremiah Dawson in Bedford County Virginia in the month of March AD 1788... That said marriage was solemnized by one Jerry Hatcher a Baptist Minister, and that her said husband died in Hart County Ky. on the 28 day of February AD 1846...  She also states that the said Jeremiah Dawson served in the war of the Revolution.  That he volunteered and went into the army in Bedford Co., Virginia, under Captain Watkins, that he fought in the battle of Guilford under Captain Watkins and General Green... That her said husband was afterwards stationed as a Guard at New London, Va.
