BIOGRAPHY Guy was a powerful magnate in the faction opposing Edward II's unpopular favourite, Piers Gaveston, who nicknamed him 'the Black Dog of Arden'. He was also one of the lords who secured Gaveston's temporary banishment in 1308. Before 28 February 1309 he married Alice de Toni and they had seven children.   In 1312 he captured Gaveston at Deddington in Oxfordshire, then met with other barons at Warwick and decided on Gaveston's death. He handed his prisoner over to Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster, for execution on 19 June 1312. Guy de Beauchamp, 2nd Earl of Warwick, died 12 August 1315 at Warwick Castle and was buried in Bordesley Abbey.

Guy De Beauchamp was graaf van Warwick van 1298-1315.
Guy vocht in 1298 bij de Slag bij Falkirk en was in 1300 ook aanwezig bij Caerlaverock.
Met vele andere baronnen zegelde hij in februari 1301 een brief aan de Paus.
Opvallend aan dit zegel is dat daarop niet hetzelfde familiewapen staat afgebeeld zoals hij elders voerde en zoals dat staat afgebeeld op de Falkirk Roll en de Caerlaverock Roll.

Het wapen op het zegel van Guy behoort toe aan de familie De Newburgh.
Het was deze familie die oorspronkelijk de titel Earl of Warwick voerde.
De oudste leden van deze familie mogen we echter wel tot de voorouders van Guy rekenen. De titel alsmede Warwick Castle kwam door vererving via zijn overgrootmoeder Alice de Newburgh in bezit van de familie De Beauchamp.
Naar aanleiding van zijn moedig optreden bij Falkirk werd Guy door de koning beloond met land ter waarde van 1000 mark. Dit land had toebehoord aan Geoffrey de Moubray.
Ongelukkig genoeg was dit land, dat hij van de krenterige Edward kreeg, geheel onder controle van de Schotten. Daarom heeft dit land de familie De Beauchamp nooit een cent opgeleverd.
De eerste echte beloning die hij voor zijn diensten aan de koning kreeg kwam in 1307. Toen ontving hij het landgoed van de familie Balliol met daarop Bernard Castle in Durham.
Guy was in juli 1307 aanwezig bij de dood van koning Edward I nabij Carlisle. Nadien voerde hij oppositie tegen Edward II en Piers Gaveston.
In 1308 ontving hij nog de manor Sherbourne maar desondanks nam hij deel aan "the Ordainers" die de macht van de koning beteugelden.
Guy overleed in 1315, vermoedelijk als gevolg van vergiftiging door de vrienden van Gaveston en op last van Edward II.
Van Gaveston kreeg Guy de bijnaam "The Black Dog of Arden". Deze bijnaam zou hij gekregen hebben om zijn donkere teint.
