Charleston Four Corners -- Mrs. Florence L. Montanye, 65, of East Laker Road, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness.
A lifelong resident of Charleston Four Corners, Mrs. Montanye was a graduate of Fultonville High School. At one time she worked for the F. W. Woolworth Co., Amsterdam, and the TerBush and Powell Insurance Co., in Schenectady.
For 29 years, Mrs. Montanye worked for the Fonda-Fultonville Speedway. Most recently, she wored at Amsterdam Printing and Litho Co. For 25 years, she was an inspector for the Board of Elections.
Mrs. Montanye was a member of the Charleston Town Board; and served as president of the Charleston Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a member of the Charleston Historical Society; and the Christian Church.
Her husband, Earl J. Montanye, Jr., whom she married May 29, 1955, died in 1986. Survivors include two sons, Alvaro E. Montanye of Canajoharie and Charles J. Montanye of Charleston Four Corners; a daughter, Dorothy Proper of Charleston Four Corners; and five grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. Burial will be in Charleston Four Corners Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American diabetes Association, American Heart Fund, or the Mid-County Ambulance Corps in care of the funeral home.
