RICHARD C. WORRELL I
Interlaken - Richard C. Worrell I, 74, of Interlaken died April 28 [1994] at Tompkins Community Hospital in Ithaca, following a long illness.
He was born April 19, 1920 in Andover, NY, a son of the late Herman and Florence Worrell. Worrell served in WWII in the 25th Infantry Division stationed in the South Pacific. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart and was a veteran of the Pearl Harbor invasion.
He was employed by the Seneca Army Depot for 20 years and retired from the Town of Covert Highway Dept. in 1985. ; He was a member of the Interlaken Reformed Church, the American Legion Post #463 in Ovid, a Pearl Harbor Survivors.
Worrell will be remembered as the man who walked to town each day to get his mail and groceries. He enjoyed feeding and watching birds and was an excellent artist. In recent years, Worrell especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Darling Worrell, 3 daughters, 2 sons, and 6 grandchildren: Peggy, Tom, and Sean Young; Rich, Joyce, and Jessica Worrell; Jacquie, Sam, Joli, and Michelle Wright; Jamie and Jennifer Worrell; Brenda, Bill, Jonathon, and Julie Riley.
Memorial services were held at the Interlaken Reformed Church with the Rev. Nicholas VanderWeide officiating.
Military services were conducted at the church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, at Dick's wishes, memorial donations may be made to the Worrell family at 3696 Cayuga Street, Interlaken, [New York] 14817.
