James H. Montanya
NORWICH — James H. Montanya Sr., 65, or Norwich, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1935, in Oakland, N.J., the son of the late Paul L. and Margaret W. Winter Montanya Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce A. Peraino Montanya in 1977; and a brother, Paul L. Montanya Jr. in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth Burgher Montanya of Norwich; his children, James H. Montanya Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C., Laurie Young and her husband, Lawrence of Bainbridge, Jamie Carkees of Fly Creek, Victoria Miller of Norwich, and Veronica Stacey and her husband, David of Norwich; his grandchildren, Lawrence Young, Christopher Young, Joyce Carkees, Jamie Carkees, Nicole Robinson, Jeffrey Robinson, Adam Robinson, David Stacey Jr., April Stacey and Angel Stacey; two nieces, Mary E. Montanya and Debra M. Ward, both of Hartwick; one nephew, Paul J. Montanya of Bloomville; one great-aunt, Jane Greene of New Jersey; and several cousins.
Mr. Montanya was a resident of the area for more than 23 years, coming from Oakland, N.J.
He was a United States Army veteran, and a mason's attendant before working with his brother, Paul in auto body service. From 1990 to 2000, he was employed with the Oneonta Country Club as a groundskeeper.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Norwich Emergency Medical, care of Fire Chief, 1 City Plaza, Norwich, N.Y. 13815 in loving memory of James.
