Verl J. Decker, age 73, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 11, 2004. Born in Tyler, Arkansas, on January 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Fonzo and Sarah (Morris) Decker. A graduate of Oakland City University and United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Decker was a retired minister, having pastured churches in Indiana and Michigan. He had been a resident of Cleburne County most of his life and enjoyed being outdoors. Mr. Decker was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Arkansas United Methodist Conference, and he attended services at the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32 degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Decker was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and five brothers. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Faye (Chandler) Decker of Heber Springs, AR, one son, Randall Wayne Decker of Newport, AR, two daughters, Brenda Carol Gray of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Rhonda Faye Thomas of Virginia Beach, Virginia, four brothers, Dwain Decker of Heber Springs, AR, Bobby Lee Decker and Jerry Decker, both of Wilburn, AR, and Ricky Decker of Concord, AR, three sisters, Rosella Johnson of Heber Springs, AR, Daisy Lea Kasun of Valley Springs, California, and Alleyne Andrews of Watervliet, Michigan, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Decker is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
