   Shoe WorkerDies, Victim of Hit-Run Auto
   John Montanye, New Milford Resident, Taken to J. C. Hospital ;
   Injured in a hit-run accident near New Milford, Pa., at about 8:30 o'clock last night, John Montanye, 49, an Endicott Johnson Corp. employe, who resides on a farm near New Milford. died this morning at 5:15 o'clock in Wilson Memorial Hospital. Johnson City.
   Pennsylvania Motor Police said they were without a clue as to Identity of the motorist or trucker who left Mr. Montanye lying along side of the highway, as Dr. S. Easton McManls of Endicott, a Broome County coroner, prepared to conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death.
   Mr. Montanye, who is believed to have been walking from New Milford to his farm home when, struck by the hit-run vehicle, suffered a fractured leg and a possible skull fracture. He was still In a semi-conscious condition when brought to the Johnson City Hospital from the Barnes Hospital in Susquehanna, Pa., at about 2 o'clock.
   Continuing investigation of tho hit-tun accident, the second in the area in the last month, is Private John H. Rights of the New Milford Barracks of the Pennsylvania Motor Police. He said Mr. Montanye was found In a helpless condltlon by a passing truck. driver, Joseph Kruttel of Scranton, Pa., who notified the troopers after going to a nearby residence for assistance.
   An unidentified veterinarian, also driving past the scene, applied a splint to Mr. Montanye's fractured leg before he was taken to Susquehanna. At the hospital
   there, he was given emergency treatment by Dr. Harold Robbins of Hallstead. The Johnson City hospital subsequently sent its ambulance for the injured pedestrian.
   Private Rights said the accident happened at the north end of the village of New Milford. He said he does not believe Mr. Montanye, whom he questioned at the Susquehanna hospital, had been lying at the side of the highway more than "20 minutes or a half hour" when discovered -by the trucker. He said that Mr. Montanye kept insisting at the Pennsylvania hospital that his leg was all right and requested the doctor'to remove the splint. Mr. Montanye was employed in the Paracord Factory.
   He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary- Montanye, and ; two sisters, Mrs. Olin Youells and Mrs. Peter Wilson, all of-New Milford, and several nieces and nephews
   The body was removed to the J. F. Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main Street, Johnson City.
