Joseph T. Shalata passed away at home in Evans Falls on Wednesday. He was married to Janet Traver Shalata. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 12, 2008. He was born in Noxen on March 2, 1934 to the late Joseph and Angeline Jones Shalata. He attended Lake Noxen High School and was employed for 44 years at the Bendix plant. He attended the Bowman’s Creek Free Methodist Church. Joe loved to hunt and fish with his sons, daughters, grandchildren and his buddies.
After retiring he spent his days at the Bowman’s Creek Service Center drinking coffee with his buddies. When he wasn’t hunting, you could find him at home in his easy chair.
He is survived by his children Lambert “Dutch” Shalata of Tunkhannock, JoAnn Williams of Morris, Pa., and Nancy B. Shalata and friend, Bradley Rosencranes Sr. of Sweet Valley; brothers, William Shalata of Noxen and Thomas Shalata of Dallas; sisters, Annette Koutnik of Harveys Lake, Judith Fields of Jamestown, N.Y., and Joyce Thomas of Hunlock Creek; grandchildren, Jeremy and Judy Barziloski of Tunkhannock, Jason Barziloski and fiancée, Michele Webb of Tunkhannock, Joey Shalata Tunkhannock, Rebecca Kyttle of Wilkes-Barre, William Kyttle III, and friend Brenda Woczak of Mountain Top, Nicole and Shayne Murray of Nicholson, Justin Shalata of Meshoppen, Michele Matthews and finance Eugene Suda of Wilkes-Barre; great-grandchildren, CJ Barziloski of Black Walnut, Ty Barziloski of Tunkhannock, William Joseph Kyttle of Avoca, Alyssa Shalata of Noxen, Kerianua Suda of Wilkes-Barre, Ainsley Daubert of Noxen, Nevaeh Suda of Wilkes-Barre, Asti Murray of Nicholson, and Autumn Barziloski of Tunkhannock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 West Tioga St., Tunkhannock with Pastor Lynn Mokwa. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery Tunkhannock.
