ROBERT STEWART, of Lorn and Innermeath, 1st son and heir of Sir John STEWART, of Innermeath, by Isabel De Ergadia (died 21 December 1439), daughter and coheir of John, Lord Of Lorn. On 26 April 1421 succeeded his father, who had acquired the whole Lordship of Lorn in Argyll on the resignation, 29 April 1388, of his brother, Robert Stewart, and Jonet his wife, daughter and coheir of John of Lorn, and sister of Isabel abovenamed. He was one of the Commissioners to England for the release of James I [SCT], and, being in 1424 one of the hostages for payment of his ransom, remained there till 1429. He was created a Lord of Parliament as LORD LORN [SCT] before 5 September 1439, on which date be was witness (as Robertus, Dominus Lorn) to a charter. He married (dispensation 27 September 1397) Joan, daughter of Robert (STEWART), 1st Duke Of Albany [SCT], the Regent [SCT], by probably, his 1st wife, Margaret, suo jure Countess Of Menteith [SCT]. He died before 1449.

Robert Stewart, Lord Of Lorn, succeeded his father. He was one of the commissioners appointed in 1421 to treat with England for the release of King James I, and was one of the hostages for his ransom in 1424. IN 1425 he was one of the jury who condemned Murdoch, Duke Of Albany, and his sons.
He married Johanna, daughter of Robert, Duke Of Albany, Governor of Scotland, a dispensation for the marriage, as they were in the fourth degree of consanguinity, being granted by Pope Benedict XIII at Avignon on 27 September 1397; and in a charter from the Duke, about 1409, he is styled 'filius suus.'

Robert Stewart, 1st Lord of Lorn, so created by 5 Sep 1439 as one of the new Lords of Parliament following the 1428 Act distinguishing Lords from the ordinary Lairds in the Scots Baronage; a Commissioner to England for the release of James I 1421 and hostage for latter's ransom 1424, one of the peers who tried and condemned the ex-Regent Albany 1425; married (papal despensation 27 Sep 1397) Joan Stewart, daughter of Robert, 1st Duke of Albany, Regent of Scotland, and died c1449.
