Sir Patrick was one of the hostages for the payment of King James
I's ransom. He had been exchanged for his father circa March 24, 1424. He remained in England until November 9, 1427, when he was exchanged for David, Lord Lesly.
On September 23, 1440, he received in heritage the lands of Fothros and Schenevale, formely set in tack by the Abbot to his grandfather. In 1442, he was infelt in the ancestral estates in Forfar and Fife. In 1451, James II granted him a charter of the lands of Cardani-Berclay, Drumgley and Drumgeith in Forfar.
He was knighted before September 30, 1444, when he is referred to as Patrick Lion of Kinghorn, Knight. He was created a Lord of Parliament under the title of Lord Glammys on June 28, 1445. In 1450, he was Master of the Household of James II; he served in this capacity for two years. Sir Patrick served as one of the Lords Auditors of the Treasury in 1450 and 1451. He was issued a safe conduct on April 17, 1451 to act as a Commissioner for settling infractions of the truce between Scotland and England. He returned to England in 1455 as an ambassador.
He was Keeper of the royal castles of Kildrummy, Kindrocht and Balveny between 1456 - 1459. In 1457, he was nominated one of the Lords of Sessions on behalf of the Scottish barons, serving as one of the Judges of the Supreme Court.
