1) Personal conversations, 1994, w/Glennis Horn, (wife of Bill Horn and longtime Horn researcher in line of Christopher Columbus Horn). Glennis shared family group sheets of our family line of Christopher Columbus Horn. ; I will be ever grateful for her for introducing me into the wonderful world of my Horn ancestry. I, being from the 2nd family of Jessie Ransom Horn, through his youngest child, Jessie Ray Horn, was sorely lacking in the Horn ancestry. Glennis' husband, Bill, is from the 1st family of Jesse R. Horn through his son William Kirksie Horn.
2) Family lore: Christopher Columbus Horn gave each of his 10 children 200 acres of land. Two of them sold their land to his son, Jessie Ransom Horn (our ancestor). C. C. and Isabella Horn raised a family of 10 children in the Union or old Devire Community, 5 miles west of the town of San Augustine, Texas. He gave 7 acres of land for a school, church, and cemetery where they are buried.
3) Photo - Union School Monument - Clayton Henry Horn, grandson of C. C. Horn, made a pilgrimage many years ago to visit the land (across from the Union School) that Christopher Columbus Horn had donated for a church and cemetery in San Augustine County, TX. A photo of Clayton Henry Horn standing next to the historical marker was found in the photo collection of Jessie R. and Tennie Horn. ; The photo has been placed on this homepage. The monument recognizes Amanda Smith Mathews for her devotion to education and inspiration of the youth of San Augustine and Columbus Horn for the land and assisting in building of the church and school.
4) Personal visit to San Augustine, TX, March 21, 2002 - A visit was made on March 21, 2002 to the Union School and the Union Cemetery outside of San Augustine, TX. ; The area surrounding the old school is overgrown with weeds and brush. The historical marker placed a little ways from the old school building is also overgrown with weeds and brush. A note was sent to the State of Texas about the state of disrepair of this historical site and monument on March 26, 2002. The Union Cemetery, as it's listed in the court house cemetery records, is in wonderful shape! It looks to have loving caretakers and is surrounded by a cyclone fence. There are several old stones and the stones of Christopher Columbus Horn, Isabella Horn and Kate Jones were found easily. C. C. Horn and Isabella Brooke Horn are buried with their grandchild, Kate Jones, child of Addie Horn-Jones, next to them. Photos were taken and will be placed online at Virtual Cemetery. The cemetery now has a large "saw-type looking" sign on the fence stating the cemetery's name has changed from Union to "Partin".

[Note: Email from Glennis Webb-Horn, May 2004, states that C. C. Horn did not have a son named Robert. She believes that the "Robt" on this census is a daughter named Barbara aka Bobbie.] [Note: ; This census is very clear and the name is written "Robt" so it is possible that the census taker was given the name "Bobbie" and wrote "Robt" thinking this was a male child. No info has been found for a male child named Robert in the C. C. Horn household.]
8) US Census, 1880 - San Augustine Co., TX, ED81, HH27, Roll: T9_1325, FHF: 1255325, Pg. 276C. C. C. 10) Family Lore: Family stories have recounted that Christopher Columbus Horn had a "crippled arm and hand which was drawn. The photo of C. C. and Isabella Horn would seem to confirm this. His right arm and hand are quite different that his left ones and seem to almost be posed so they aren't prominent in the photograph. ; [Photo courtesy of Glennis Webb-Horn, May 2004]
