Margaret [wife of John Tempest & mother of John Tempest who married Katherine Sherburne], daughter of 1st Lord (Baron) Holand. [Burke's Peerage]
Ancestral Roots is specific about the Margaret who married John Blackburn & Adam de Banastre (she is definitely daughter of Robert & Elizabeth Samlesbury), but the reference by Burke's Peerage about the Margaret who married John Tempest is a little less clear. The Margaret who married John la Warre was daughter of Robert 1st Lord Holand (at least Ancestral Roots calls him that), but she was born about 1308, married "by 1326" to John la Warre, daughter of a marriage which, according to Ancestral Roots, took place "by 1309/10". Even at 1308, it would be pushing it for her to have a son John who had a son Richard born c1334. She and her son would both had to have children at age 13; and you would have to explain why she divorced John Tempest (who lived until 1359) and married John la Warre by 1326 at age 18. Therefore the only Margaret who would reasonably fit the description, even though she was not daughter, but sister of 1st Lord Holand, would seem to be this one (who married John Blackburn & Adam de Banastre, and then John Tempest).
I originally had John and Margaret a generation later, being parents of Richard Tempest who married Maria Talbot. ; Then everything seemed to work well. Margaret was daughter of Robert 1st Lord Holand & Maud la Zouche; Margaret married (1) John la Warre who died 1331; after his death she married (2) John Tempest and had Richard born c1334. Not only are all dates given in that scenario backed up by sources, but it is supported by older publications such as Burke's Commoners of Great Brittain & Burke's Extinct Peerages, except sometimes Margaret is named Mary; see notes under son John Tempest. I had as parents of John and Margaret, John and Katherine Sherburne (ie. the wives of the two generations of John Tempests were reversed from what Burke's Peerage has). I am still inclined to think that I may have been right in the first place and that Burke's Peerage is wrong.
