Willem Van Cats, knight of Cats, Satshoeck, Catsrack, viscount of Gouda ans Schoonhoven, with asjoining lands, lord of Duyveland and Catsand, flourished about the year 1340. He succeeded his father in the old ancestral lands, rights and titles in Seeland and in his gradfather's new aquisitions in Holland. On the little island of Duyveland just north of North-Beveland is situated the little place of Welle, meaning a well, where the ancestors of the family must have lived before Gyselbert Van Welle (born about 1060) became the first lord of Cats. -from the Van Cott genealogy by Annie A.
