Theodore was working as a farmhand in Camden Twp., Carver County, MN in 1862 before he enlisted in the Union Army. He had provided $10 per month to the family before enlisting. Army pay sent home $12 per month. Theodore died during the Civil War and then his mother qualified for a pension of $8 per month which was later raised to $12 per month.
