Gebeurtenis (Ondertrouw) op 30 december 1763 in Rotterdam .
We don't really know why Jacobus Josephus left Bevere/Oudenaarde to settle in Holland, but family tradition has it that he was "in trouble" and went north to stay out of the clutches of the law! In fact this bit of information came from Willem Marinus Naessens (1894) but his source is not known.
Jacobus Josephus and Alida went "in ondertrouw" (meaning registered as having the intention to marry) in Rotterdam on 30 December 1763. The Rotterdam City Council records still show that they each paid a fee of 15 guilders on their wedding day.
Jacobus Naessens was a "chirurgijn" in Maassluis. The family was Roman Catholic, and in fact remained all-Catholic until the early 1900s when the "main branch" (starting with Louis Charles Willem Naessens) gave up being practising Catholics. One of Louis ("Epi") Naessens' sons, Bart, in fact became a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church. However, other branches descending from Epi's brothers remained Catholic.
Josephus was spelled as 'Jozephus' in his marriage certificate which is dated January 30, 1763 - the day of 'ondertrouw'.
The temperature on the day of his funeral on 16 September 1795 was about 18 °C. The wind came out of the east-northeast and the weather was described as mostly clear. Source: KNMI weather station Zwanenburg/Nederland).
His name also appears in the records as Jacobus Jozephus.
