  Noot: James Pagett was de adminstrateur van de Pl. Fairfield in deze periode. Anna Christina "Pagett*" staat vermeld als behorende aan deze plantage. Het is dus waarschijnlijk dat ze aldaar ook geboren is. Opvallend is, dat zij zeer snel na haar geboorte gedoopt is, en dus ook werd vrijgemaakt, wellicht door tussenkomst van de vader die toestond dat ze zijn geslachtsnaam mocht dragen.

  Noot: Anna Christina werd als enige op dezelfde dag [ 5 vii 1801] gedoopt als Johanna Jacoba Comvalius [*±1756 -- † 27 vi 1839]. Het is mogelijk dat deze vrouw familie van haar was.

  Thanks to Mr.K.Pagett who wrote [pers.comm. 10 x 2022] : "Catherina Ulrica van Buckland is listed not as a slave but as the owner of 10 slaves in the period 1838-1848, one of whom, Mimie, was her slave for the dates I had given. This is more consistent with the description of her in the will of James Pagett as being "free" in 1803."

  Noot: een James Pagett wordt genoemd in Neil Hampshire's South American Genealogy Database i.v.m. een testament in 1836. Mogelijk testeerde een familielid rond dat jaar.

Zij heeft/had een relatie met Wolphert Jacob Matroos.

Noot: Martha Tjoe-Ny stelt dat Ernst Matroos meer kinderen had van diverse vrouwen. Zij meldt:
"Anekdote
Helena Petronella Matroos (1828-1892). Duidelijk is dat zij een dochter is van Apolonia Christina Adamzoon/Hendrikzoon (ca. 1810-1855); zelf is ze tot ongeveer haar veertiende ook geregistreerd onder de familienamen Adamzoon respectievelijk Hendrikzoon. Nu is me gebleken dat moeder en dochter in ieder geval tot Helena Petronella’s derde levensjaar inwoonden bij wolfert Jacob Matroos en zijn gezin. Wolfert Jacob (1800-1831) is de zoon van Ernst Matroos. Hij leefde samen met een vaste partner, Anna Christina Pagett ((Slaven-)Naam Pagett Doopnaam Anna Christina Datum doop 1801-07-05 Geboortedatum 1801-06-15 Bronverwijzing Nummer toegang: 1.05.11.16, inventarisnummer: 22, folio number: 9) met wie hij vijf kinderen had, maar hij lijkt ook bij verschillende andere vrouwen kinderen gehad te hebben, o.w. Jean Pierre Matroos, de betovergrootvader van Ans Matroos. Ans was de dochter van Clemmy Matroos , Louise was de moeder van Clemmy Matroos. Zowel Ans als Clemmy waren enig kind van hun moeder. De gedachte dat Wolfert Jacob de vader van Helena Petronella is dringt zich op, maar het is nog niet uitgesloten dat één van zijn neven (zonen van de in Amsterdam overleden Jacob) haar vader was. Eén van die neven, Jacob Theodorus Wilhelm Matroos, verklaarde in ieder geval in 1834 vader te zijn van een kind dat eveneens in het huis van Catharina Ulrica van Buckland geboren was. Thanks to Ken Pagett [pers.comm. 24 vii 2023] the following data were included in this genealogy:
"The genealogist Jacques Vrij is recorded in an anecdote as stating that Anna Christina Pagett had 5 children. I have now found details of 4 of these in the online register of baptisms in the Reformed Church 1824-1828 and in the birth registrations from 1828 now also available online. The key point is that for the first 3 of these the father is named - Wolphert Jacques Matroos, not his father Pollux Ernst Matroos.
Wilhelmina Carolina Matroos, born 25.02.1825, bap 10.03.1825
Joseph Francois Matroos, born 17.03.1827, bap 25.03.1827 (witness ME Buschman)
William Wolphert Matroos, born 05.11.1828, bap 27.11. 1828 (witness Johanna Elizabeth Matroos). A newspaper notice reports his death on 06.10.1852 at the age of "24".
Wolphert Jacques Nicholas Matroos, born 23.01.1831. Unlike the previous birth registration WJ Matroos did not register the birth and declare himself the father and no father's name is recorded. This is probably because as announced in a newspaper notice Wolphert Jacob Matroos himself died on 27.01.1831, at the age of 30 years and 10 months.
A fifth (or rather first) child of Anna Christina Pagett and Wolphert Jacques Matroos could have been born in 1823, but as far as I know the relevant church records are not online (and may not have survived).

From both government and church financial records I now have a precise date for the death of James Pagett - 16.09.1806, earlier than I had thought.

The National Archives in London holds the will of a James Buckland, who died in Paramaribo on 28.03.1801. James Pagett was one of those appointed to settle his estate in Surinam. In his will he pressed for the liberation at his expense of the slave Ulrica (ie Catharina Ulrica Van Buckland) belonging to the Fairfield plantation, gave her the use of his house on Joode Breede Straat (which as her heiress Anna Christina Pagett was to dispose of in 1849), gave her Sf. 3,000 for the purchase of some household furniture, and gave her the use of his 5 slaves. This generosity suggests to me that James Buckland was the father of the slave Ulrica - a Mr Buckland was residing in Surinam as early as 1775, according to John Steadman's Narrative."
