Donna Kay DeVault Dewaelsche, 66, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Madison, died Monday, April 24, 2017, at Kindred Hospital and Health Care in Louisville, Ky.
She was born June 27, 1950, in Shelbyville to Ralph E. and Hazel I. DeBaun DeVault. She was raised in Shelbyville and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1969. She moved to Madison in 1971. She was united in marriage to Charles Dawson Smith on May 19, 1973. She worked as an assembler at Grote Industries and as a manager at Heck's Department Store in Madison for 10 years. She later worked for Key Bank and Society Bank as a teller and supervisor in Indianapolis for 15 years. She was united in marriage to Art Dewaelsche in 1987. She enjoyed reading, shopping, dancing, music and her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Travis Smith of Dupont; four sisters, Terry Whicker of Hanover, Rita Vierling of Madison, Lana Reinhart of Goshen, Ky. and Judy Nugent of Saint Omer; one half-sister, Vickie Holder of Shelbyville; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by one son, Chad Eric Smith, who died March 4, 2006; her former husband, Charles Dawson Smith, who died April 16, 2011; her father, who died Feb. 15, 1987; her mother, who died Feb. 16, 1994; one sister, Tessa Sue Pursley, who died May 29, 2002; and two brothers, Phillip Edward Cole, who died in 1953, and Billy Cole Sr., who died Oct. 15, 2006.
