June 21, 1937 page 5CARTHAGE EVENING PRESS SAMUEL I. RICHARDSON DEAD FORMER CARTHAGE GROCER SUCCUMBS AT 68Long Had Been in Ill Health - Rites Will Be Here Tomorrow Afternoon Samuel I. Richardson, 68, well-known former Carthage grocer, died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning at his home near Kirbysville, MO. Mr. Richardson had been in ill health about 16 years. He suffered from rheumatism. He had been confined to his bed about a week. Death was attributed to chronic myocarditis. He was born April 29, 1869 in Fountain county, Indiana. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Richardson, came to Carthage about 59 years ago. The son, Samuel, opened the Richardson Grocery store here about 30 years ago. He later organized a corporation which at one time operated a chain of 10 stores here. He served as president and general manager of the company. With Mr. Richardson in the business were his two brothers, Paul and Fred Richardson, W. C. Thomas, Sid and John Bowers, Arthur Osborn and Fred Osborn. About 12 years ago, Mr. Richardson disposed of his grocery interests here and retired to his farm near Kirbysville, where he died. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Yetta Carter Richardson, to whom he was married about 12 years ago in Branson; two brothers, Paul and Fred Richardson of Carthage, and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Hook of Carthage. Mr. Richardson's first wife, Mrs. Mollie Lake Richardson, died a number of years ago in Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Knell service home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.Mr. Richardson was a life member of the Elks Lodge. He also was a formerly a member of the Royal Arcanum.
