Hello Phil
I've got this link through the Whittington site, and hope you can help.
My wife's great grandfather and mother lived in Whittington. William Thomas Burgess was a Quartermaster Sergeant at the Barracks when he died on 13 May 1900. His wife Hannah and their host of children (11 of them) lived at Rose Cottage, Whittington (1901 & 1911) and Holly Cottage, Whittington when she died on 25 April 1925.
Their children were William Thomas , George , Mary Florence (my wife's grandmother), Margaret Caroline, Emily Hannah, Agnes Maud, Grace Evelyn, Catherine Maria,Arthur James, John and Miriam Ireen (or Eileen). Some of these became soldiers or taught in the barracks.
I would be surprised if you have any personal info on that lot but I would be most grateful if you could supply it.
However, my key question is: Was there a burial ground in the barracks or nearby in which WTB and HB would have been interred? Hannah Burgess was a Catholic, and WTB may well have been as a result of his marriage.
Thanks very much
Geoff Buck
