When George Fred Smith was born on December 28, 1859, in Farmington, Utah, his father, George, was 36 and his mother, Catherine, was 31. He married Elizabeth Ann Newman and they had seven children together. After Elizabeth Ann passed away George married Mary Elizabeth Taubman and they had seven children together between 1896 and 1916. He died on May 14, 1942, in Cottonwood, Utah, at the age of 82.

Cottonwood--Funeral services for George Fred Smith, 82, who died at his home here Sunday at 8 p.m. of anemia will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Cottonwood Ward Chapel, 6000 Highland Drive, with Bishop Frank Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Smith residence, 1725 East Vine Street, after 4 p.m. Wednesday and prior to services Thursday.
Mr. Smith was born in Farmington Dec. 28, 1859, son of George and Catherine Wootton Smith. He had made his home in Cottonwood since 1873.
He was an active member of the Church. He served on a mission to England from 1905 to 1907, and for a number of years was in the high council of the Granite Stake. At the time of his death, he was president of the Big Cottonwood Tanner Ditch Company. He also had served as a trustee in the first public school of this district and for a number of years was a road supervisor.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary T. Smith, three sons, Orson J. Smith of Granite, Ray F. Smith of Cottonwood and Glenn T. Smith of Jackson, Wyo.; five daughters, Mrs. John T. Bringhurst and Mrs. C. Vanderende of Cottonwood, Mrs. Catherine S. Gilbert of Murray, Mrs. C.E. Mitchener of Salt Lake City and Mrs. E. L. Quick of Magna; a sister, Mrs. Ida Wilkins of Hunter; 32 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
