And from anothersource at the Mormon's Family History Library Catalogue, I also found thatanother civil parish named Montiaghs, encompassed the town of Portadown.Civil parishes were administrative, not religious divisions in Ireland, though manyProtestant, Catholic and other religious denominations did take their names from theCivil Parishes in which they were located. Civil Parishes were set uphundreds of years ago by the English government, which ruled Ireland up tothe early 20th century.Using the knowledge that the civil parish for Portadown was named Seagoe, Iconsulted another book by Brian Mitchell called A Guide To Irish ParishRegisters, which shows that the Church of Ireland for Seagoe has parishregisters that go back to 1672; and that the Catholic Parish, in this casealso named Seagoe, has registers that go back to 1836.There are also two Presbyterian parishes in Portadown.
