BROKE HIS NECK
JACOB DUTMAN IS FOUND DEAD IN COURT STREET.
FALLS FROM WAGON
TEAM RETURNS TO LUMBER YARD WITHOUT DRIVER.
CAUSE FOR HIS FALL IS UNKNOWN, AS NOBODY SAW THE ACCIDENT--HE LEAVES FOUR CHILDREN.
In a fall of only about five feet from his wagon, JACOB DUTMER, a teamster for the Mercer and Ferdon Lumber company, broke his neck and died almost instantly while driving on Court street in front of the plant of the Grand Rapids Brass company at 11:30 today.
Dutmer had been out in a single larry delivering some sawed lumber and was returning towards the yards of his employer at the corner of Court street and the Grand Rapids & Indiana tracks.
There seems to have been no actual witness of the accident. Fred Dykman, a gas company employe, noticed the unoccupied wagon and looking back, saw Dutmer sprawled at full length, with his head doubled under his body. Dykman called for assistance and the dying man was taken to the sidewalk. Almost at the same instant, the horse walked into the lumber yards and fellow employes looking down Court street, saw several men carrying Dutmer's body out of the roadway.
The police ambulance was summoned and Officer Steed, who responded, saw immediately that Dutmer had breathed his last. Dr. Charles H. Holt arrived a few moment's later and discovered the fractured vertebrae. Coroner LeRoy was summoned and had the remains removed to Stein & Alt's morgue.
LEAVES FOUR CHILDREN.
The deceased was 37 years of age and a widower, his wife having died two years ago. He lived at 175 Prescott where the eldest of his four children also boarded. The other three children lived with brothers and sisters, of which there are six surviving. Parents of the deceased live in Muskegon.
The accident is most peculiar in that no one of the some two score of workmen who are employed at the benches of the Brass company and facing the very spot where Dutmer fell noticed anything out of the ordinary. The horse was not going faster than a walk.
Coronor LeRoy made an examination of the remains and determined that an inquest, even in view of the peculiarities of the accident, was not necessary.

HIS HEART WEAK.
The autopsy held yesterday afternoon by Coronors LeRoy and Hilliker on the remains of JACOB DUTMER, who was killed yesterday by a fall from is wagon on Court street, developed that Dutmer suffered with a weak heart. The heart was found in such bad condition that the coroners did not hesitate to assign as the cause of Dutmer's fall an attack of heart disease.
