MILITARY: Description from records: military records: Length: 740 cm?; face:
round; eyes: blue; nose: big; mouth: ordinary; chin: round, hair: blond;
eyebrows: blond; noticeable marks: none.
OCCUPATION: was a "marskramer" or pedlar of coffee and tea and nicknamed "Jan
Tee." Owned and lived in a house with barn, garden and farmland on the dike
between Sleeuwijk and Woudrichem, close to Sleeuwijk's ferry.
EMIGRATION: Upon emigrating to the U.S. in the Spring (probably entered at NY)
5 August 1848 he sold some land to Simon Benschop. He joined the First Reformed
Church of South Holland "by confession" on 16 Oct. 1853. On trip to South
Holland, IL in August 1991 his approximate burial location was found in
Homewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Also located original farm at 153rd St. and
the Calumet River, now a subdivision, with Wigwam Park very near the first
homestead.
