Henry VandenBrink, meat firm founder, dies (2-4-1985). Services are scheduled Friday for the founder of VandenBrink Meat Co., who died Tuesday night. Henry VandenBrink, 82, in 1947 founded the meat wholesale company, now at 547 Richmond Ave NW.
The company specializes in processing and distributing smoked meat products. It began as a oneman operation during the 1920's, survived the Great Depression of the 1930's and eventually grew to 50 employees now.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Seventh Reformed Church, 950 Leonard St. NW, with pastors the Rev. Charles W. Krahe and the Rev. Morris Folkert officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
VandenBrink learned his trade from his father in The Netherlands. A Grand Rapids native, he was active in the Seventh Reformed Church for about 40 years serving many capacities and supporting numerous missionary endeavors.
He is survived by his wife Grace; his children Donald and Shirley VandenBrink of Grand Rapids; Carol and Kenneth Heuvelman of Allendale; Joan and William Sturrus of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; four brothers Herman, John, George and Charles VandenBrink and two sisters Cora Smith and Grayce DeRyke.
