The founding of today's place Randerath is closely related to the construction of the castle Randerath. In 1084 a Harper of Randerath was mentioned for the first time. His son must take the destruction of his castle in disputes with the lords of Heinsberg. In 1225 Gerhard von Randerath received the city of Duke Walram from Limburg as a fief. The year 1239 brought the renewed destruction of the castle by the Duke of Brabant. In the 14th century the Lords of Heinsberg gained more influence on Randerath, in 1310 the castle of Offenhaus of the lords of Heinsberg. With Arnold of Randerath the sex dies in 1384. His son-in-law William of Horn inherited the estate, which was sold by his wife in 1392 to the Duchy of Jülich. Randerath Castle was subsequently the seat of a jubile official. In 1542 Randerath was destroyed during the Jülich feud by soldiers of the Emperor Charles V. In the years 1670 and 1717 large fires raged in Randerath and in 1675 Randerath was plundered by Lauenburg troops. Parts of the fortifications of the 14th century were laid down in 1762. The fortification probably took place in the 14th century and contained several towers and city gates.
