Land pricesstarted to climb and those in northern Illinois heard about opportunitiesto go to Iowa, since the railways had opened up new lands there. Thusthe first Harken families struck out for Iowa in 1865 - to Butler Countyand more specifically Austinville, Iowa. After living in Iowa for a fewyears the two sisters Martha Harken Ritger and Elizabeth Harken Heyer andtheir families moved to the Kamrar , Iowa area where another Germansettlement was forming.
