Stanley Zondervan, 83, of Willmar, died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Clara City Care Center in Clara City. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, June 1, 2007, at Willmar Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar with Military Honors by American Legion Post #167. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Stanley was born on December 21, 1923, in Ogilvie, Minnesota, the son of Andrew and Julia (Stob) Zondervan. When he was three years old, his family moved to the Roseland area and he attended Sunnyside Elementary School. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1951. On June 6, 1952, he was united in marriage to Esther Meyer in Clara City. Following their marriage, they lived in Willmar where Stanley worked at West Central Tribune in composition until 1982. From 1982 till 1993, he worked at First Bank as a maintenance person. Stanley showed his loved of gardening and his green thumb as he owned and operated Zondervan Nursery for many years.
He was baptized at Ogilvie Christian Reformed Church and confirmed at Roseland Reformed Church. Stanley was a member of Willmar Christian Reformed Church where he had served as a council member, choir member and was a Catechism Teacher.
Surviving are his children, Daniel (and Deb) Zondervan of Grand Rapids, MI; Debbie (and Tim) Carlson of Willmar; Beth (and Chad) Hoekstra of Raymond; Joan (and Robert) Slagter of Clara City; eight grandchildren, Eric and Jessica Zondervan, Ryan and Amy) Carlson, Nathan (and special friend, Danielle Bieri), Heidi (and Brandon) Meyer, Matthew Hoekstra, Nick and Kristin Slagter and great grandson, Peyton Meyer; brother, Cornelius (and Eleanor) Zondervan of Prinsburg; sisters-in-law, Esther Zondervan of Prinsburg and Selma Hubers of Raymond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Esther in 2004, and brothers, Tony and John Zondervan.
