Markgreve av Ivrea 891 - 899.
Anskars herkomst har vært meget omtvistet, men var antagelig av en saalfrankisk
stamme. Det er mulig at han var sønn til en greve Guido som før 865 eide ?La villa pontificale
de Vendœvre? i Lassais. Anskar var greve av ?pagus Oscariensis? 879 - 887 kalt etter floden
Ouche ved Dijon, en biflod på høyre side av Saône.
Han kom med markgreve Guido av Spoleto som en av hans tilhengere til Italia i 888.
Anskar kalles markgreve første gang 21.02.891. Han fikk de occidentale grevskapene i
det subalpine settentrionale området i Ivrea-partiet og med disse grevskapet Turin.
I 894 kom den karolinske kongen Arnulf til Italia for å kreve kongekronen. Han angrep
Anskar, dro gjennom Nord-Italia og ødela de byer som gjorde motstand. I 895 dro han bl.a.
gjennom Ivrea. Anskar unngikk døden ved å ta sin tilflukt til grubene inntil Arnulf, trett av å
forfølge ham, gikk gjennom Burgund tilbake til Tyskland.
I et diplom av 01.12.898 kalles Anskar for ?illustre marchese e sommo
consigliere? (den berømte markgreve og høyeste rådsherre). Han døde snart etter, for i et
diplom utstedt i Varcelli 21.04.902 gjør kong Ludvig av Provence en donasjon etter
ansøkning av Anskars sønn Adalbert.

Anscar of Ivrea

Anscar I (died March 902) was the margrave of Ivrea from 888[1] to his death. From 877 or 879, he was the count of Oscheret in Burgundy. He supported Guy III of Spoleto for the throne of France after the deposition of Charles the Fat in 887, but after Guy's failed attempt and the coronation of Odo, Count of Paris, he returned with Guy across the Alps, where the duke was elected King of Italy. In gratitude, he created the March of Ivrea in the northeast and invested his Burgundian supporter.

Anscar was a counsellor of Boso of Provence and brother of Fulk, Archbishop of Rheims, who strongly supported the Carolingian dynasty in France. With Fulk, he probably invited Guy to France. Anscar fought on behalf of Guy's kingship in Italy. He battled Arnulf of Carinthia during the latter's invasion of 894 and he supported Guy's son Lambert after Guy's death that year. In 896, he was one of the few in the north to oppose Arnulf second invasion. After Lambert's death, he supported Berengar of Friuli as king and became his chief counsellor.

Anscar's wife was unknown, but he had only one son, Adalbert, through whom he was the progenitor of a dynasty, the Anscarids.

^ Wickham, 178. The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy website gives the date of his institution as margrave as 1 December 898, which would have marked it as one of Berengar's first acts as king. This is flatly contradicted by Wickham.

1. ANSCHIER (-[1 Dec 898/Mar 902]). The primary source which confirms his parentage has not been identified. Comte d’Oscheret 877-888. Counsellor of Boson King of [Provence]. Together with his brother and Foucher Archbishop of Reims, he invited Guido II Duke of Spoleto to become king of France in opposition to Emperor Karl III “der Dicke” who had delivered Burgundy to the Vikings after his accession in 884. Anschier accompanied Guido back to Italy after the election of Eudes as king of France in 888. In Italy, he remained as counsellor to Guido di Spoleto, took part in the campaigns against Arnulf King of Germany who invaded Italy in 894 and 896, and became Marchese di Ivrea in [898/902].

(21494) He died about 899.(21495) han var av salfrankisk stamme, greve av "pagus Oscarinsis" (kalt efter floden Ouche ved Dijon, høire biflod til Saone) 879-887. han kom med markgreve Guido av Spoleto som en av hans tilhengere til Italie 888. Kalles markgreve første gang 21.1.891. han fikk de ozzidentale grevskaper i det subalpine settentrionale oråde i Ivrea-partiet og med sisse grevskapet turin. I 894, da den karolingiske konge Arnulf kom til Italia for å kreve kongekronen, angrep han Ansgar, drog gjennom Norditalia og ødela de byer som gjorde motstand. I 895 drog han bl.a gjennem Ivrea. Anskar ungikk døden ved å ta sin tilflukt til grubene, intil Arnulf trett av forfølgelsen gikk gjennom Burgund tilbake til Tyskland.
