DeWitt is a village in DeWitt County, Illinois, United States. The population was 184 at the 2010 census. The U.S. Census Bureau and the USGS list the village's name as De Witt, although the name DeWitt (no space) is used locally and by the U.S. Postal Service. The village is named for DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York, 1817-1823.The village is home to the Country Store and the Powerhouse Pub, local businesses that offer food and beverages. Customers under the age of 21 are allowed into these businesses during daytime hours because they serve food, but there is a cutoff time because they are both considered to be bars. The Country Store is located at the south end of Bloomington Street, while the Powerhouse Pub is located conveniently right off of Rt. 54. DeWitt is also home to Ol' Joe's Bait and Tackle, a bait shop which sells bait, tackle, souvenirs, and snacks. Ol' Joe's is located on the north side of Rt. 54, directly across from the Powerhouse Pub.There are also two separate storage facility locations in DeWitt where people house boats and campers during the winter, as well as smaller storage units for personal use.
