SUMMARY: What proof is there that Jane is the daughter of James? It has been suggested that the Jane Dewhurst chr 16 Dec 1689 Chipping, Lancashire, England [ 942.72 K29pr v. 14 ] could be the Jane Dewhurst who married James Saul. Lewis Taylor has this information in his file "possible Chr Rec Chipping. Lancashire." Chipping is about 10 miles from Bolton. A question that comes to my mind is why were all the other children of James Dewhurst chr in Bolton? There are other Dewhurst's in Chipping, but no other children of a James bapt. In Jul 2004 Chipping burials were checked from 1622-1693. The were only 4 entires that mentions a James Dewhurst. One was in 1656, which is not in the correct time frame and 2 burials 1685 and 1689, and then the Jane christening. They were: James s. James Dewhurst buried 26 Jun 1685 and a child of James Dewhurst buried 4 Mar 1688/9. In Dec 1685 Jennit d/ James was buried in Bolton by Bowland. There are two questions that come to mind. [1] Jane was bapt 16 Dec 1689 in Chipping and her sister Mary was bapt 8 June 1690 in Bolton, this is not even 6 months apart. Of course it is possible that Jane 's baptism occurred some time after birth. [2] If Jane, chr in Chipping is assumed to be our Jane, then these other burials in 1685/1689, in all probability, are her siblings and Jennit was not the first child. Then the question is - are we purseing the correct James. It would be prudent to look into probate records. For the time being the christening date will not be used in this file.
