Text of his obituary, provenance unknown:
"Cpl. [Corporal] Melvin Hohensee Killed in Action in Sicily Aug. 2
Cpl. Melvin Hohensee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hohensee of near Western, was killed in action in Sicily Aug. 2 1943, his parents were informed in a telegram received from the war department last week.
Cpl. Hohensee would have bee 25 years old Sept. 5. He entered service August 5, 1941, and left this country Oct. 16, 1942, for service overseas. He was with American forces in the invasion of Sicily in July.
One of a familyof 14 children, he leaves his parents and 12 brothers and sisters. One brother died in infancy."
