H.H.HEETLAND DEAD
Life's end came to him last Friday Evening
Lingering Illness Results in Final Relief - a Good Citizen and Resident of Ackley
Henry H. Heetland, another one of the old-time residents and business men of Ackley, competed [sic] life's journey last Friday, when, after a lingering illness, due to cancer of the stomach, he succumbed to the inevitable, although he made a strong and heoric [sic] fight against that dread disease. After learning the character of his illness, he sought the counsel of the most expert physicians and medical practitioners, but they held out no hope for him, and all that he could do was to hope on and await the appointed hour and moment. It came in the evening of Friday last.
Mr. Heetland was a man who always stood four-square; he did the best he knew; was considerate of his fellows, and labored for the well-being of himself, his family and those about him - a good citizen, active in the life of the community, identified for more than thirty years in the business life of Ackeiy. Monday afternoon, the day of the funeral, all business concerns in Ackley were closed from 2 to 4 o'clock, in respect, and for the purpose of permitting men who had known him through the years to attend.
Deceased has served as a member of the town council several years, one year as a member of the school board, and he had been an active member of St. John's German Evangelical church.
He was 68. Born near Freeport, Illinois, he is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters, a brother and one half-brother, and by his death, the family has the sympathy of friends and the community in general. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon."
