"Frederick A. Vanderwerf (1925-2014)
WELLSBURG -- Frederick A. Vanderwerf, 88, of Wellsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 27, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long-Term Care Unit, Grundy Center.
He was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Grundy County, son of Anna Vanderwerf and stepson of Walbert Hinders. On Sept. 25, 1947, he married Marlys Annette Riebkes at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Wellsburg; she preceded him in death.
Frederick completed 12th grade at a country school in Grundy County. He farmed in Grundy County for most of his life. He was a member of St. Peter's Country Church, where he served on the church board, was in choir, was a part of the Men's Brotherhood and had also served as a youth group sponsor.
Survived by: three daughters, Pauline (Rick) Vogel and Deb (Kendall) Ringena, both of Wellsburg, and Sandy (Karl) Harken of Aplington; four grandchildren, Derek (Jessie) Harken, Nathan (Lindsay) Vogel, Travis (Sarah) Ringena and Allison (Todd) Schoolman; five great-grandchildren, Colton and Caylee Harken, Aniya and Maddox Vogel and Dawson Schoolman; two brothers, Glenn (Elinor) Hinders of Eldora and Russell (Bev) Hinders of Ackley; and a sister, Shirlene Mulder of Parkersburg.
Preceded in death by: his parents; an infant son, Ivan Dale; and a brother-in-law, Herman Mulder.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Country Church, Wellsburg. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, with burial in the church cemetery.

Frederick enjoyed golf and fishing and spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of this life."
