Note: Lena Spieker, daughter of harm and Fannie (Hassebroek) Speiker, was born November 15, 1895 in George, IA. She grew up in IA and on February 9, 1916 she married George Akkerman in George. After their marriage they farmed in IA until 1926when they moved to Willow Lake, SD. They then came to Salem in 1936 where they operated a service station and rest cabins. They lived in Salem until 1959 when they moved to California. Mr. Akkerman died in CA on Febraury 22, 1978. Lenacontinued to live in CA until 1980 when she boved to Montrose, SD to live with her daughter. Lena died at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Salem on Monday, December 16, 1985 having reached the age of 90 years, 1 month and 1 day.

Survivors include three daughters, mrs. Luella Hendricks of Arroyo Grande, CA, mrs. Alfred (Florence) Boysen of Montrose and Mrs. Wallace (Violet) Johnson of Ft. Peck, MT. Two sons Alvin of Custer, SD and Marvin of Whitewater, KS. 19grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 28 great gandchildren, a brother Fred Speiker of Willow Lake, SD and a sister Tillie Kruger of Ellsworth, MN.. Shewas preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. AC (Lavina) Carlson, 3 brothers,1 sister and 1 step grandchild.

Services will begin at 2 PM Wednesday in Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem, SD. Burial will be Monday at Los Osos Valley memorial Park in Los Osos, California.
