Hilda Meyer, 80
ALGONA: Funeral services were held Monday, September 29 for Hilda B. Meyer, 80 in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Skip Petta officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery, with Wilson's Funeral Home of Algona in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Elmer Alt, Gary Harken, Kelvin Mennen, Tom Ester, Robert Ruhnke and Patrick Prothman.
Hilda Tapper, daughter of Johann and Harmka Stopplemoor Tapper, was born at Liberty, Iowa on September 14, 1903. She received her education in several western Minnesota communities then worked at home.
On December 9, 1925 Hilda was married to Dick B. Meyer at Titonka. The Meyers farmed near Buffalo Center until 1936 when they moved into town. Several years later they moved to Titonka and in 1945 they moved to Algona. Mr. Meyer died February 5, 1973.
Hilda was very active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for many years, was a member and past president of the United Presbyterian Women, a member of the Christian Women's Club and assisted as a volunteerwith Meals on Wheels. She was an extremely caring person, always assisting those who needed help of any kind, whether young or old. Mrs. Meyer is survived by three children, Richard of Vinton; Rev. Benjamin Meyer of Modesto, CA and Mrs.Albert (Joy) Taylor of Minneapolis. There are 11 grand-children.
Also surviving are three brothers and six sisters, Donald Tapper of Titonka; Herman Tapper of Forest City; John Tapper of Manchester; Mrs. Lydia Rippentrop of Armstrong; Mrs. Norris (Mary) Rousseau of Fairmont, MN; Mrs. Jim (Minnie)McQuiston of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Harm (Ester) Huisinga of Titonka; Mrs. Henrietta Reed of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Raymond (Lillie) Green, also of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Johann and Walter."
