"DEATH OF JACK M'CLURE
Well-known wabash train man succumbed yesterday
Popular Railroad Engineer, and Had Many Friends About Town - Michael Wolf Victim of Railroad Accident, Dies - Other Deaths and Funerals.
John H. McClure, a well-known engineer on the Wabash, died yesterday morning at 11:30, at his home, 319 South Harrison street. He had been suffering since March from stomach and liver afflictions, though his case was amenable to treatment until last Thursday, when his condition became serious. On that day his physicians gave up all hope, and he had been sinking ever since.
Mr. McClure was born in Pennsylvania, in 1854, and had been connected with the railroad service for over thirty-seven years. His first position was with the Pennsylvania railroad on the Tyrone division, and his work, because of its excellence, brought the long sought position he received in 1871. In 1880 he came to this city, and became identified with the Wabash railroad, running a train out of Fort Wayne. His connection with the Wabash was unbroken, except with one year with the Erie at Huntington, and four years as foreman on the roundhouse at Andrews.
In 1868 Mr. McClure married his present widow, who together with four daughters and two sons, survives him. They are Mrs. Jennie Conklin, of Fremont, O, Mrs. Maude Smith, of Delphos, O, Mrs. William Pierce, of Toledo, O., Miss Hellen McClure, and David McClure, of Toledo, and Harry McClure of this city.
The deceased was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, a thirty-second degree Mason, and a a [sic] member of the Mystic Shrine. There is hardly a railroad man in Fort Wayne and vicinity who will not mourn his death as that of a brother, and his friends were legion in other walks of life.
The Masonic fraternity will have charge of the funeral which will be held from the residence Thursday at 3 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. J. A. Patterson officiating."
