Merlin Everett Linn, 88 of Sheffield Lake, Ohio died Monday evening, September 9, 2013 in Stein Hospice, Sandusky, Ohio following a three month illness.
He was born in Sheffield Lake on June 18, 1925 to the late Jennie (nee: Traster) Linn-Kane and William Linn. Mr. Linn moved to Amherst, Ohio where he grew up and graduated from Central High School.
He lived in Olmsted Falls, Ohio before he returned to make his home in Sheffield Lake. Mr. Linn served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, receiving the Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Stars, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 7 Stars and the American Theatre Medal.
He was member of Stereotyper (one who reproduces a copy from the original) Union, Local 22. Mr. Linn was employed for the former Cleveland Press, Plain Dealer, Cleveland News and the Wal Street Newspaper when it was in Cleveland, Ohio, retiring in 1975 after thirty five years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sheffield Lake where he was a member of the 50 and Uppers and former chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. Mr. Linn enjoyed golf and yard work.
He is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Margaret G. (nee: Smith) Linn, sons, Brian Scott Linn of Lorain, Ohio and Bruce Merlin Linn of Collins, Ohio, daughters, Marsha Ellen Linn of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tina Elizabeth Macias of Red River, New Mexico, Jennie Linn Adkins of Denver, North Carolina and Sharon Lydia Parsons of Lorain, a sister, Laverne M. Toth of Amherst Twp., Ohio, twenty three grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Linn was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Wm. Linn and half-brothers, Donald Linn and Lester Kane.
By his request, he was cremated.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 3 PM until 3:30 PM in the First Baptist Church, 633 Harris Road; Sheffield Lake, Ohio 44054 where funeral services will be at 3:30 PM with Pastor Kiel Nunn officiating; a dinner will follow.
