LifeSketch: Allan MacDonld was born in Dorchester, New Brunswick, Canada, a son of Laughlin and Florence MacDonald. He moved with his family to Connecticut as a young boy and grew up in Naugatuck, where he attended local schools.listed in the U.S. Army and served his country for three years. At the time of his enlistment, he had been employed with the Bristol Company. From the start, Allan was attached to the Army's 9th Infantry Division, a seasoned unit known as 'The Old Reliables'; and four months after his enlistment, he was shipped overseas where his division participated in the Invasion of Sicily. Once the island had been taken, he was sent to England where he was assigned to the 15th Engineer Battalion, which took part in the Invasion of Normandy, fought through France and Belgium, and was the first to set foot on German soil. At the end of the war, Allan was transferred into the 716th Tank Battalion to expedite his return to the States; and for his time and service, he was decorated with the European Theatre of Operations Ribbon and six battle stars.y raised a family of seven (two sons and five daughters).een married for more than 25 years.
