Green served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was in Company
"B", 81st Infantry, Illinois Volunteers serving as a musician. He
enlisted at Murphysborro, Illinois, August 26, 1862 and was mustered out
August 5, 1865. In December of 1880 he received a pension of $6.00 per
month for "Lungs and Rheumatism", ailments incurred during his time in
service.
