LifeSketch: Amanda was born in Sanpete County, Utah on July 21, 1890. Her parents moved the family to Provo when she was one-year-old. She moved as a young girl to Orem and was baptized in the Timpanogos Ward. She attended the Spencer Elementary school until the eighth grade and then her education was what she could read and teach herself. She loved to read and credited many of the books she read leaving life impressions on her.ovo, Utah. His mother passed away when he was 10 days old. His father gave him to Daniel Bigelow, a neighbor, and one of his plural wives to raise. Parmelia nursed and loved Barney who was a sickly young child. The Biglow family moved to Wallsburg, Utah which is a few miles South of Heber City. Schooling was scarce and what schooling Barney received was gleaned on and off in the Wallsburg Elementry. At age seventeen he moved to Provo with a sister who was caring for his paternal father. Three wives and the size of the family helped to make that decision.ol when Amanda was sixteen, her first thought as they met was who is he and he sure isn’t very handsome. They married on October 2, 1909 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to a ranch in Huntington, Utah in 1915. Daniel Bigelow, Barney’s adopted father came to live with them and talked them into returning to Orem.she had attended school. They farmed what they could and Barney worked where ever he could find work. Eight children were born into the family. Barney ultimately became the janitor of that same Spencer School. He held that position for 24 years and three more at the Westmore Elementary School.s before having another stroke. He died on December 14, 1958. He was Seventy years old.ath for 27 years until she began to have failing health. She passed away four years later on Jan 1, 1989. Amanda was 98 years old. She spent the last 31 years as a widow.
